David Maisel was born in 1961 in New York (USA) and currently lives in San Francisco. He is visual artist and photographer, graduated from the School of Design at Harvard (Cambridge), later he studied at California College of the Arts (San Francisco).
Inspired by a x-ray machine at the Getty Institute, Maisel started to look for artifact's x-rays through the archives of museums, uncovering these ghostly emanations of
light, and then scanning, re-photographing and manipulating
them digitally to later present them as History's Shadow project.
Maisel's latest book History's Shadow conglomerate 21 pictures (40"x30", edition of seven). Like many of his previous projects,History's Shadow illustrates a keen interest in the manner in which photography can combine art, science and a sense of humanity.
